Old Data
As far as I can tell, the data we are given access to is last year's data. Is this purpose of this app for historical data? There are mentions of live data (team/player info) but unless I'm missing something, we can never leverage it. Is this correct?

Hi acantro1,
Thanks for writing. Yes, you are correct — the data supplied via the AIG Opta Rugby Dataset is static data from 2012. Apps created for the challenge must use at least one feed from the 2012 AIG Opta Rugby Dataset.
The live data you're referring to is part of the Overall Grand Prize, which gives the winner access to live rugby feed data from Opta Sports for two years.
Best,
Megan

So all the apps that don't win the top prize will have to pay for a feed to carry on?

Hi matthedude,
Thanks for your question and your participation on the challenge.
The AIG Rugby Innovation Challenge was created to make rugby data available for free for the first time ever. AIG’s involvement and sponsorship has allowed this to happen.
The data provided for the challenge is a static dataset from the 2012 All Blacks season. Since it is historical data, it does not refresh or update. Developers are encouraged to download this data, since it will not be available indefinitely after the challenge closes.
If your app will require live data to function after the competition and you are not the Overall Grand Prize winner, then you will need to reach an agreement with Opta to supply it. If you are the Overall Grand Prize winner, you will receive Opta data feeds to power your app free of charge for a 24 month period following the announcement of prize winners. This will be for international competitions and fixtures involving USA Rugby and the All Blacks.
I hope this is helpful to you. Good luck!
Best,
Megan
