Ideas & data tips
The submission deadline for the AIG Rugby Innovation Challenge is about six weeks away on October 9, 2013. For those of you well on your way to developing the ultimate rugby app, pat yourselves on the back! For the rest of you still trying to come up with ideas, don’t worry — you’ve got time to come up with something great.
To help you along, here’s some food for thought:
Be choosy
You don’t have to use every feed available in the AIG Opta Rugby Data — think about the user experience that you are creating. What need are you trying to help solve? Take a look at the feed specs to see what really works for you.
Cache data
Since the data feeds will not be available indefinitely after the challenge closes, please do not pull data directly from the data links. Instead, cache the data that your app uses.
Get inspired
If you haven't settled on an idea yet, explore the AIG App Idea Bank under the Resources page. Also check out the All Blacks Rugby 101 videos and the AIG YouTube channel — they're great resources to educating those who don’t know everything about the game.
Ask questions about AIG Opta Rugby Data
We are monitoring the AIG Rugby Innovation Challenge Google Group closely. Don't be shy — post your data questions there.
Start your draft now
Starting a draft is a good way to make sure that your app meets all the competition requirements. There’s nothing worse than getting to the deadline, only to realize that you’re missing a key component. Once you begin a draft, you can save it and edit it at any time prior to the submission deadline.
We look forward to seeing how you'll tackle the AIG Opta Rugby Data to create innovative apps that promote rugby awareness and engagement around the world. Let's get people excited about this great global sport!
