Welcome
Thanks for registering for the AIG Rugby Innovation Challenge! We are very much looking forward to seeing how you tackle game changing big data and create apps that bring rugby to the masses.
As rugby fans, we all know how great a sport it is, but there are plenty of others out there who have yet to discover this. That’s why we’re incredibly excited to collaborate with Opta, the world’s leading sports data company, New Zealand Rugby, and USA Rugby to bring you this challenge.
Potential participants: read on and kick off your submission today! Apps are due October 9, 2013. Harness the power of technology, and help create a new generation of rugby enthusiasts around the world.
Quick-start guide
- Get into the game. Don’t know much about rugby? Check out the All Blacks Rugby 101 videos and the AIG YouTube channel to get up to speed.
- Find inspiration. Explore app ideas in the AIG App Idea Bank and see which compel you the most.
- Tackle big data. Take a good look at the granular data and rich data feeds available in the AIG Opta Rugby Dataset; explore mashup opportunities with additional APIs, SDKs, and datasets from Google Maps, Foursquare, ESPN, and more.
- Explore images & video footage. How can you make your app informative and interactive? Consider incorporating creative assets provided by New Zealand All Blacks and USA Rugby.
- Decide on a platform (or more), then start coding. Is your idea best suited as a web, mobile or desktop app, or perhaps some combination? In any case, make it interactive — inform, engage, and delight users!
- Enter your submission. Start filling out your submission early so that you don't feel rushed on deadline day. Even if you don't have all the details yet, you can always take advantage of the "Save as Draft" option and come back to your work later.
Earn prizes, recognition, and exposure
A distinguished judging panel — including entrepreneur and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, New Zealand All Blacks players, and others — will review eligible apps based on these three judging criteria, and the best submissions will be awarded $85,000 in cash & prizes.
